Daily Examples of Gender Neutral Pronouns 1

Hi! So I’d like to talk about the use of they/them pronouns! People who identify as gender neutral, gender non-conforming, gender fluid, genderqueer, or any other sort of non-binary gender may ask you to use these pronouns. So how to do you do it?

It can be difficult to get used to using singular “they” in everyday speech. So my goal here is to just introduce the language slowly so it can become something more normal. Unfortunately, it likely won’t be a comfortable/common thing in our language for another 20-30 years, but I can be a part of the movement. I can begin the change.

Here are just a few examples to get you started.

“Hey you should ask Dan if they need a ride to work today.”

“Did you hear from Bran yet? I know they generally don’t respond to texts, but it’s important.”

“And you know my sibling, Jan, yeah? See, they always steal my hairbrush, and I am sick of it!”

“I’m past patiently waiting, I’m passionately smashing every expectation, every action’s an act of creation.” -Hamilton: An American Musical
